In honor of National Poetry Month, join us for a special poetry-centric Late Night Open Mic on Saturday, April 9. This event will serve as the after-party for the student Wake Up To Poetry Contest and the grand finale of the second Words Awake Festival, and will provide a chance for both students and alumni to share their poetry. While sign-up is reserved exclusively for poets, we are interested in all kinds of poetry: spoken word, slam, narrative/prose, haiku, traditional and experimental forms.
Aside from poetry, we’ve got some awesome music scheduled with a performance by Wake’s own Stranger Season. And there are door prizes! All attendees will receive raffle tickets, and winners will be announced throughout the night. Prizes include pieces of Wake Forest literary history, including schwag from Wake Forest University Press, various goodies from the ZSR Library Special Collections, and more! All you have to do is show up and share your poetry or support your fellow students.
This event is co-sponsored by the Student Union, Wake Forest University Press, IPLACe, the Interdisciplinary Honors Program, the English Department, Words Awake, and Library Partners Press.
